Peace or Strife?
06 Mar 2016
What’s in your life?
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, ESV)
How do we have the peace of God? How do we get it? Well looking at this passage closer, we get our answer. Verse 4, tells us to rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS! (emphasis mine) Through trials and tribulations, in good times and bad…rejoice. Verse 5, let your GENTLE spirit be known to all men. the Lord is near. (again emphasis mine) How do people around you know you? would they say you are a gentle person, or kinda on the ornery side? Remember the Lord is near…would you act that way in front of Jesus?
Verse 6, …let your prayers be made known to God. In other words, “Let go, give it to God, and move on!!” THEN, verse 7, and you will have PEACE. But, then Paul drives it home with verse 8, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (Philippians 4:8, ESV)
So, to sum up….if someone is troubling you, if there is a situation that you are bothered by, let your life be known as gentle!!! Pray and give it to God. Then DON’T think about it anymore!! Think about the good, true, honorable, pure things!! and you will have PEACE!!
So, that’s how we get peace…where does strife come from? “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.” (Proverbs 10:12, ESV) Strife is conflict. How do you have conflict in your life, or why? No, FORGIVENESS!! Hot Tempers…arguing, dishonest, woe, sorrow, complaining, hurtfulness, lead to red eyes. “They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,” (Romans 1:29, ESV)
Strife is mentioned as one of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:20. But, Paul goes on in chapter 6 to tell us, “Do not be deceived…whatever one sows, that will he also reap.” Stop all strife now, in the name of Jesus!! Seek PEACE!! Be GENTLE!! You reap what you sow, so how do you live your life? How would your kids say you live? Put down your differences and LOVE like Jesus did for you!!
